To kick off 2018, we performed a variety of water torture tests (https://www.imaging-resource.com/articles/2017-weather-testing-nikon-d850-vs-sony-a7riii-canon-5div-olympus-e-m1II) on some of the most popular cameras available from numerous manufacturers, including the new Sony A7R III (https://www.imaging-resource.com/PRODS/sony-a7r-iii/sony-a7r-iiiA.HTM). Our Best Overall Camera of the Year (https://www.imaging-resource.com/news/2018/01/05/camera-of-the-year-2017-best-overall) ended up being decided in part due to the results of that very test. The Nikon D850 (https://www.imaging-resource.com/PRODS/nikon-d850/nikon-d850A.HTM) performed admirably while the A7R III, an otherwise excellent camera, came up short due to water ingress in the battery compartment.
